Juliana Salazar

Stylist and Brand Strategist, New York City

I was born and raised in Miami, FL— the first in my very large Colombian family to be born in the states actually. I started working in the fashion industry when I was in high school. I have always really liked clothes and shoes and my parents didn’t understand why I needed to own those Puma mesh sneakers in every single color. So I started working in retail and bought them myself. I went to school for Business Administration and French with no real clue as to what I wanted do. And now I’m here! (Disclaimer: I still have no clue what I want to do.) I’m inspired by people who aren’t scared to realize their ideas and get shit done. People like Virgil Abloh, Leandra Medine, Miroslava Duma, Zane Lowe. They are all pioneers within their respective fields and continue to push the envelope further.

Nike Air Presto: Miami

This sneaker is the coming together of two different Miamis. The old and the new. The first being the Miami I grew up in— a city known for its raw beauty and majestic atmosphere. You know, like flamingos. Although it is a major city, Miami is still underdeveloped when you think about all the possibilities that have yet to be realized. That’s where my reference of Tony Goldman’s Wynwood building comes in. Goldman invested heavily into the Wynwood area before most could even understand it’s potential. His vision and thoughtful decisions transformed the neighborhood into the destination it is today and has opened the gates up to a whole other world. The easily recognizable black and white striped building, to me, is a landmark for the cultural shift and development currently underway.
